VIOLENCE IN THE SCHOOL IS A RESULT OF DIFFERENCES OUTSIDE SCHOOL. WE AS A COUNSELOR CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

People nowadays are always being watched on television or reading in any mass media whether electronic media or printed media about violence in the school. Past time, violence in the school is an incident that rarely to happen. But, present time, people sometimes just look at this problem as a kids problems which is can be solved easily. If we look into the situation, this is a big problem among students especially when we are responsible to hold as a counselor position in the school. Years ago, the most violence in school is hazing which is happen only among seniors and juniors who are still in orientation week and this situation will be eroded time by time they are staying together. Counselor has a big responsibility in the violence problem especially nowadays we are having many of violence problem such as teasing, sexual harassment, physical assault rape, bullying, stealing, and many more. One of the factors why the students are committing in violence is because of differences among them outside the school. When they have any dissatisfaction among each others’ group even outside the school, they bring the problem into the school and make the problem to the school. People saying that counselor cannot do any changes about this problem because this problem is coming from the outside of the schools. It is strongly disagree that counselor cannot do anything due to violence in the school which is a result of differences outside school.
Every problem in school community must be reported to the counselor in order to the counselor to catch up the route of the problem. The differences outside the school not only focused on their races or culture only, but, it also can be the differences of their behavior, gangs, misunderstanding about certain things and many more. All of that can be the factors why they are making violence in school. Counselor not only focuses on the students’ problem only but it is including teachers, administration and also staff. All of them are making problem to the school even it only brings a few cases. Due to the students’ violence problem, the cooperation from all parties is a main important thing. It is not the counselor alone who is responsible to solve this problem, but it must be together with principal, teachers, staff, parents and the student itself. When everything is burden onto the counselor alone, the effectiveness of the counseling session is not well running, and people will saying that counselor cannot do the work well. If the school community is working together, the full planning to solve the problem can be done effectively because the idea is coming from each level of community. From here, people can see that counselor can do well eventhough the problem is coming from the differences outside of the school.
On the other hand, the counselor also cannot do the work well when the problem is coming because the counselor is given the side job that is teaching in class. Sometimes, the counselor is also asked to do the job like become a teacher who are accompany students for a visitation. It is because, the school think that the counselor has nothing work to do and it is just wasting time to sit down without do anything. Therefore, the counselor itself cannot do their work because work is overload. If the counselor knows about the violence in the school, he cannot do much because of tied with other job. He cannot investigate the factors of the students’ violence. From this situation, we can say that the counselor cannot do anything. However, it must bear in mind that counselor cannot do anything is not because of he or she own weaknesses but they are burden by a lot of side work.
To sum up, the counselor cannot work alone in order to solve a big problem in a school community, which is involved a variety and differences of people. As a school community regardless the status, it is a responsibility to give a hand to help counselor to decrease the problem in school especially when it is related to the differences among the school members. Everyone must know their own responsibility and respect each other so that the problem among people can be reduced.
