“Violence in the school is a result of differences outsides school. We as a counselor cannot do anything about it”. Discuss.
As people mentioned nowadays, there have a lot of problems that related with our children inside and outside school especially in term of violence towards them. The term of violence is referring to a violation of a person’s physical and civic rights as well as his/her psychological or personal integrity. So that, we as a responsible person like parents, teacher, administrator and community in our society can not take for granted in which are giving the responsibility for counselor it self to settle down the violence problems. It is because; counselors cannot settle the problem personally without supporting from others especially parents and community. So that, I am disagreeing with the ideas of as a counselor, they cannot do anything about it. It seems like we are blaming the role of counselor in school and not believing in that.
Firstly, there is a lot of suggestion for counselor at school in preventing the violence problem towards student. For example, counselor can conduct separate educational workshop for students, parents, teacher and administrator in providing preparation for them to face violence problem. At the same time, the counselor can include the brilliant way in order to make them be prepared. It is because, nowadays the violence problems is becoming one of the current issues that should be preventing from being spread. As our information, the condition of our environment nowadays, is not applicable for our children as they are growing up. If we look, media nowadays is becoming as a one factor that may influence children attitudes. For example, there is a lot program at television that shows the violent problems like WWE or Wrestling World Entertainment. So that, children are easily copying bad action from that and at the same time, they try to implement it with their friends at school.
Secondly, counselor in school also should be alert by itself in looking off what is good for majority people in school especially students. Then, they should also think something that give positive effect towards other which means that the good solution that can be implementing with students at school. For example, counselor at school can use their ability towards student by establishing the committees. In this condition, committees are including representatives from each group races in order to facilitate communication and to monitor the interventions. In the other hand, this idea cans become as a way to make counselor task become easier.
Thirdly, in terms of outsides school, parents is becoming as a vital role in guiding their children to behave properly. Which means that, parents is giving a better knowledge and education towards their children at home. For example, parents always follow up and knowing what types of friends that their children have in making relationship. Referring to the Hadis, prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that “Every people was born under the “Fitrah”, so their parents are the most responsible in order to mould them either to be Yahudi, Majusi or Nasrani”. In other words, parents should realize their responsibility towards their child at the same time; let them having collaboration with counselor at school in giving supporting and sharing the ideas in how to prevent their child from involving violence problems.
Last but not least, there is a certain problem in which is showing that, counselor is not function well and done their work or task properly. It is because, till now, there is many violence problems occur among of student in our country and almost every year statistic have show the increasing percentage of social problem including violence among student. So, why this kind of problem is happen are only can be answer by our self which means that, have we as an adult have shown a good attitude for the next generation after us? At the same time, have we done our responsibility towards our country in which we are trying to cooperate with others among our societies in order to eradicate this kind of problems?
In conclusion, as a counselor in school, they must prepared and be alert in all times by being a creative person especially in facing a variety types of problems like violence towards their students at the same time, they have trying their best in preventing that kinds of problems. So that, there is no information that are easily blame towards counselor role by saying that they cannot do anything about violence in the school in which are coming from differences outsides school.
