Position 3-Hazwani Abd Hamid (0720496)

“Violence in the school is a result of differences outsides school. We as counselors can’t do anything about it”. Discuss

Alhamdulillah and thank to God which is still give me a chance and opportunity to write and discuss an interesting topic in this position paper 3. For this time, the discussion involves the school students and the counselor. Actually this topic is very important to us especially to the counselors, which is as a challenge to them how to cope these problems with a good way. Today we can see many violence and social ills occur among the teenagers especially to school students and this also known disaster to them. So, to avoid these disaster attacks to others, some prevention and action must be taken to handle these problems.

Now, before we go further discussing this topic, let me explain about the violence. Actually, violence is the expression of physical or verbal force against self or other, compelling action against one's will on pain of being hurt. Variant uses of the term refer to the destruction of non-living objects (see property damage). Worldwide, violence is used as a tool of manipulation and also is an area of concern for law and culture which take attempts to suppress and stop it. The word violence covers a broad spectrum. It can vary from between a physical altercation between two beings where a slight injury may be the outcome to war and genocide where millions may die as a result.

So, we back to our topic, I am very disagree with the statement that counselor can’t do anything about violence in the school which is result of differences outsides school. This is because, as school counselors, one of their roles is to handle the school students problems, and for this situation, even the violence in the school is influence from outsides, but as one of the community of the school, the counselors has their responsible on their students. The counselors cannot ignore because, if they do not want to help their student, I think anyone do not want to help them. In this discussion, for me even some said that, why the counselor or teachers busy and always care with their stubborn and problems students while at the same time they do not hear and follow their teacher’s advices, but as school community especially counselors, they might not think like that. In my opinion, if the counselors know how to handle these, maybe these problems may be solving. Furthermore, if we lack them with these problems, maybe it may get worst and maybe will influence another student. Besides that, even these problem’s student learnt a bad things and behavior from outside, it no wonder as a counselor help them to back them to right way again.

So, within the experience and the counseling skills, the counselor may use all these in helping them. For instance, try to call the problem’s students to the counseling room and make a session with them. Then, discuss properly with them and try to find what the factor those make them become like that. Maybe within this ways, these students feel appreciated because along they commits with these problems no one wonder and care for them. Maybe when they have share their problems it will feel comfortable and realize after they got the counseling from the counselor.

As conclusion, I am again disagree with that statement above and as a counselor, every second the problems come, we must take it as our challenge and do not easy to give up. For me, maybe the problems occur because of many factors such as family problems, financial problems, lack of parents love and attentions and so on. Besides that, at the same time, we cannot blame them because in this student ages and stages, they like to learn and always love to try a new thing but maybe they do not get a right guide and do not expose in a right ways. So as counselors, it is our roles to help and guide them to bring them back to the right way. InsyaAllah, maybe with this effort, the problem may be reduced and maybe it no longer happens again.
