“Violence in the school is a result of differences outside school. We as counselors can’t do anything about it.” Discuss.

Violence in school has become a serious issue in recent decades in many countries, especially where weapons such as guns or knifes are involves. Violence can be defined as behaviour that intended to hurt or kill such as physical or emotional force and energy. When we talk about violence in the school is result of differences outside school it means that violence in school is not cause by the school environment but it cause by the communities it self. For example, Abu and Maniam fight because of misunderstanding between them. Abu feel very angry and he slapped Maniam face. Because of that incidence, for the next day Maniam come with 3 others Indian boys and beat Abu until he can not walk. According to this incidence it shows that small issues will become big issues when there are differences between races and community background.

According to the above statements it state that we as counselors can’t do anything about this issues. This is because when the problem is involved difference community or ethnic background it is not easy to settle the problem. Normally all the students they have their own perception about the other races. This is happened because their community have train them how they must react when they face the difference community or race. Besides that, normally people will give full support to their same race no matter weather they are in the right position or not. The counselor can not do anything about violence in school because of back experience that the community has face before this. For example issue of 13th May that involve between Malay, Chinese and India is the black experience between them, so as a counselors we can not do anything if violence in school involve students from difference races.

Furthermore, if the issues are involved different communities or races, it is very sensitive issues to discuss. So, it is difficult to the counselors to play their responsibility to chance other perception or to settle the problem. Sometimes, the ways that the counselors take to resolve violence in schools maybe bias to other races. This happened because maybe the counselor come from the same race as the students and these issues will not resolve but it will become bigger issues. For example if the students fight because of difference belief between them, it is very sensitive issues to discuss on. Both the students have to their right to say that their religion is right compare to other religion because it is their belief we can not change their perception and force them follow us. Hence, went violence in school involve difference races it is very sensitive to discuss about it. So, as school counselors we can not do anything to resolve this problem.

Unfortunately, if we see from the other side well train counselors can do something to overcome violence in school. Even though all the races have their black experiences that involve difference races, we as counselors can resolve this problem step by step. The important step is prevention, counselor can implement many program to prevent violence that come from same or difference races. For example, they can implement the program that involve all the races and give the same opportunities to all the races to active in the entire program that they implement. This way can help us to make them understand that they can not make the last experience as main issues for them to create violence between the other races. We want them to know that all of us are the same like our Prime Minister slogan “One Malaysia”. Hence, we as counselors can do something to overcome violence in school.

Moreover, as counselors we can not bias to our clients, we have to give same attention to all our clients. Even though the issues are involving clients that come from difference communities, we have to give same service to them without any bias. If we think that the issues are sensitive, so discuss the problem properly in the counseling room and help them to find the direction to resolve this problem in the right ways. Besides that give same opportunities to the clients the give their opinion and talk what they feel so that the problem can be resolve smoothly and they did not feel that the counselors are bias to them. As counselors we have to practice unconditional positive regard to all our clients to make sure we can give good services to them. Hence, it show that we as counselor can do something to overcome violence in schools that involve different communities.

As a conclusion, violence in the school is a result of differences outside school can be resolves by the schools counselors if they are well prepared to face these situations and have enough skills to handle these issues. The entire problems that come to us have the way to resolve it, but we have to be patient, be a creative thinker and do not bias to our entire client.
