COUNSELORS ARE THE KEY TO THE SUCCESS OF THE 1 MALAYSIA CONCEPT.

1 Malaysia concept was established by our new Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Tun Razak. This concept was received many responses by political leaders and public. Actually, the main core is just a way to bring unity together among all races in Malaysia. As we know, we live in multiracial country which consists of three big races like Malays, Chinese, Indian and many other minorities races. The issue is whether this 1 Malaysia concept will bring unity or does it will ever happen when the cultural, belief, norms and career path differences are big? In this context, counselors especially one of the right people needed in ensure this concept become successful. The topic given was counselors are the key to the success of 1 Malaysia concept was exactly true and make a sense.


I am strongly agreed with the topic given. Why I say that because counselors are the person who receiving adequate training and skill in order to assist the client. Counselors are the best agent because they know everything. They are born and train to deals with many types of problem such as to make this concept become successful not just by name but by doing it. Counselors can implement many programs toward this concept because they have the authority. Counselors working with the changing population and of course they will have a strong multicultural foundation and knowledge of cultural dynamics. The existence of cultural differences is the sources of misunderstanding and dispute between all races in Malaysia. Hence, it is vital for counselors to develop understanding about varieties of culture in order to get effective treatment and result. When counselors have all these, automatically to make this concept become success, the role of counselor should be concern by others. The major aim of 1 Malaysia is to create unity and equality, so when the counselor can bring unity among races, this concept will be achieved sooner or later but all parties must cooperate in each other.


As we know, counselor have many roles to shoulder such as consultant, change agent, advocator and as a liaison between school and communities. This entire role will give positive consequences to Malaysian people because counselor will dealing with all types of people and in the right way, counselor will bring changes. Counselors learn how to develop appropriate techniques in order to fix with client’s culture and level of mentality. Counselors have a better understanding about sociological and psychological characteristics of human being. With other specific word, counselors are the people who have expertise in their field. So, it is make a sense when we say that counselors are the key to the success of 1 Malaysia.


As a conclusion, in order to gain unity among all races in Malaysia each individual must have positive perception toward another’s. That why we need a collaboration between all parties and a guidance from expertise such as counselor to develop a sense of empathy and unity in order to live in meaningful life together. Bears in mind that the important thing here is not who are the key of this concept to be success, but how we unite as Malaysian not as Malays, Indians or Chinese individually.
