COUNSELORS ARE THE KEY TO THE SUCCESS OF 1 MALAYSIA CONCEPT.
1 Malaysia is coined by our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abd Razak. Generally, it is about to unite all the races together into one vision and mission. 1 Malaysia is purposed to have every race cooperate together in every aspect of job or daily life.
However, this kind of program is not easy as written on the paper. For sure it is easy said than done. Eventhough they are look like they are unite, but they will backbiting at the back. This is will not last longer because the grassroot is not strong. They are just hypocrite especially when the cameras are recording them.
As counselor, the role to unite every race is not an easy job because they have been told from their parents form they were small about what the others races are. Some said Malays are lazy, Chinese are selfish and Indians are harsh. Hence, the children have their own interpretation about the other races before they are getting know each other. This situation will continue until school and job environment. If the situation is remain like this, the 1 Malaysia concept will be failed and the role as a counselor brings nothing.
However, as a counselor-to-be in the future, I have see this problem will become more easier if the current school counselors not play their roles. If the counselors see this problem cannot be solved, the students will not unite until they end their school. So, the counselors themselves must have positive thinking towards the potential of students to change.
After I watched a movie last night titled ‘Gadoh’, I feel that I have an idea on how to make the concept of 1 Malaysia become successful. I plan that when I be a counselor in the future, instead of doing counseling session alone, I want to have a theater club in my school which is under counseling program. This theater club will be involved all the races. Through the theater, the student will cooperate especially if they are having theater competition. In this club, they will know each other well and work well in their organization. The hidden objective of this club is like a practical way on how to unite them without they are feel like they have been forced to unite. In the chart organization, the post provided must be filled with different of races so that they can always working together.
Here, the counselors must be a creative person in order to make the program running well. If the program is succeed, it can be considered as the concept of 1 Malaysia also succeed because this program may unite them well.
