POSITION PAPER 5: COUNSELORS ARE THE KEY TO THE SUCCESS OF THE 1 MALAYSIA CONCEPTS.
1 Malaysia is a system design by government to unite all Malaysian in a different races and culture. Counselor is a person who responsible to help other people who need guidance and have unstable emotion. In Malaysia, counseling services are most implementing in school; where there are focuses on students’ development. Then, the most aspect that being face and solve by school counselor are discipline and education, even multicultural are also included but it is occasionally.

Based on this situation, I would say that I disagree with the topic that ‘Counselors are the key to the success of the 1 Malaysia concepts’. In my opinion all of multicultural problems are come from people mind setting itself where it has been happen long time ago, begin at the colonial century that every race has they own perspective about other races. This means that it has been heritage and very difficult to change. Then, it is very challenging for school counselors because it involves society outside that bring it to school environment. This is true that a counselor role is to prosper all school residents and bring harmonies among teachers, staffs and students. However, this situation will be different outside the school environment because in school the problems occur might be related to education but in outside there are more complicated and focus on individual problem.

Besides that, in school the specification are easy to settle because the small environment and everyone have a same objective likes want to success in their study. While, in the society they are more aware about their self interest, culture and belief and because of these differences they can not achieve their goals. For example, in school when Chinese and Malay students have a problem counselor can instill them that they have to be together because they stay in same school, study together and have to develop their country in their future so they can share idea and change knowledge likes Chinese expert in mathematic while Malay expert in Malay language.

1 Malaysia concept is a long way to go because it involves all Malaysian that actually they have their own perspective about life. Like I said before, they already set their mind about other races and environment influences them such as family where there might be some situation that they experiences before and make it into conclusion of their mind. When we talk about society, it very huge and many aspects have to be considered like sensitivity of every race.
In other hand, people might agree with this topic that counselors are the key to the success of the 1Malaysia concept because counselor is a responsible person who will instill harmonies in school, where a place that every students get knowledge and learn everything about life. Counselor can make so many programs to create peaceful and explain how important to be one Malaysia. Then the society in school will apply it in outside.

However this is along process, the key is all Malaysian; government organization, non-government organization and all society. Even, 1 Malaysia is success in school it will not guarantee success in the society outside because of the different situation and environment. It happens especially where students are more influences to family thought outside the school. The important thing is, counselors role in society are very limited so we have to improve it first then it will help to achieve1 Malaysia concept.
