Through my understanding, instruments is a tool: a tool or mechanical device . For my next position paper or which I would to called “unique and freedom paper” the topic that I am going to share is ‘Since most of the assessment instrument in the market were made based on American Culture. Muslim counselor should not use standardize assessment instrument at all’.

It is true that the entire standard instrument that being used by the entire world are from western. They are the one who are pioneer, make up all the content and the one who did a lot of research on the instrument. Because it is done by the western so, of course it is western style. As the result of all the research done by western people, they construct the instrument due to their norm which is; it is valid, accepted and suitable for the western.

The most important, what I am going to discuss here is about, can
we, who are counsellor to be, that stay in Malaysia and practice Islam as a way as life, use all the instrument that related to counselling process in counselling session?
We may use some of the instrument, as long as it is not clash and broken with value of Islam. For example, we may use instrument that made by J.Holland which related to how we want to fine the career that suitable to our client that need our guidance in searching for a job. Those instruments are describing our personality and give the direction to find the job that match with our interest and personality.

For the instrument that totally describe our behaviour through colour, date of birth, and so many much more, as a Muslim we belief in Qada and Qadar, we admit that everything happened is had been written by Almighty Allah. If we use the instrument and accidently, it is same description of our life, we can’t take the solution or the advice to belief and accept it. Some people may ask, why it can be the same or almost same like the real life. We have to know that, the study and research done by the western are depend on the people, which is gone through deep experiment. In that case, sometime we may feel that they know everything, but the true is before make an instrument they have done the study of the human being sample.

In my openion, a Muslim counselor may use the instrument as long as it is in line with syariah. We also can use it if it suitable and accepteed. We may refer to the original instrument ,but adjust it and make it accepted by our norm. We cant use and totally accept the western instrument because our culture, belief, value and norm are totally different. The life style also different. We cant accept the western life style because it is opposite from us. Something right for them may wrong and unaccpted to us. May Allah give us the guideline to become a good and adorable counselor, so that we can help our client to give them insight. In.Allah...
