In my opinion, violence can be made in silence or to be declared publicly. As everybody aware, violence can emerge in a form of physical destruction, emotional disturbance, psychology manipulation, sexual harassment and rights distortion. Sometimes, we did violence unconsciously but we never meant it. It is not necessary to point out the difference outside school resulted violence but it can be too. There are counselors who can’t do anything about it but there are counselors who can do something about it.
Why it is not merely difference outside school can leads violence to be occurred?
There is violence inside school, even though there are no difference races. For example, what about a case of sexual harassment made by a Muslim Malay teacher to a Muslim Malay girl? Or, teacher who call names to their student, swore them, doing exceptionalities to certain students, unfriendly teachers, teacher’s ignorance to the student affair but only want to punish after they broke school regulation, being impatient to the slow learners and so many other examples. Even among a race still has something to compete, argue and squabble with. Teacher A VS teacher B and so on. While for students, Spice Girl group VS Solehah group. How can we affirm that there is no ‘violence virus’ from the inner school institution?
Why it is relevant too to say the difference outside resulted violence?
At least, in school institution, we are tied to policies and regulation as students and teachers. But, at home, our neighborhoods, in the shopping complex, in Recreation Park, in alley, only small group of citizen can really realize that they are in controlled by federal laws. Many see that it is the public area where no one can restrict you to do what you intend. For example, my television, my playstation game, my laptop is mine, ours, so I can just watch and play what I want. So, without monitor, they absolutely explore the entertained part of media like pornography, action movie that promotes violence and other ‘intensity lagha virus’. In addition, no one can see me raping, snatching, blackmail or killing in an alley then I just do it. Ihsan or integrity is still failed to be instilled to Malaysian citizen.Furthermore, peer influences are typically having the tendency calling other peers to naughty and negative deed. Adolescent stage is the most crucial, fragile while childhood stage is imitative. So, outer school influences especially parents and family, peers and society really can give impact to burst out violence.
Counselor cannot do anything if they are not ready to play role as changing agent, liaisons, to advocate, and to do outreach. They cannot do anything to at least reduce violence in school because they do not care to their young generation, no strong ‘qasad’ to heartily work out their duty. Even do not realize their status as the officer of Allah with two position: A servant and vicegerent.
Counselor can do anything if they put effort and attempt to really encounter it. If they have the intention to mould a good pattern of student, they will be ready to be a change agent, liaisons, an advocators and doing outreach. If they really care of human being, they will not give up in calling others to righteousness.
In my opinion, violence resulted from outer side of school as well as inner side of school. Because it is really there in both circumstances, I could not say only society outside the school can contribute violence, it is really myopic. Violence can be made silently or publicly, consciously or unconsciously. The location of people does not determine violence but who is the person make the violence motivated or vice versa. My focus is depends on the quality of the people around you, anywhere. Not because of certain location like such things “outside school” or “inside school”.
Counselor still can do something at least to lessen it as I hold Allah’s promise, “Allah will never changes your fate unless you put effort in order to find a better fate”. Who are we to turn off and on the heart of other people? We only can support, stimulate, help and put efforts to call them to righteousness. But Lord who plays destiny. Lord who turn our heart off and on. Do our parts and leave the rest to God. A good counselor will never give up to change something that he would even don’t know will change or not but to pursue his work until the end Never gone with frustration even though our expectation and optimistic was not paid.
Allah hu la mani’a lima a’ thait. Wala mu’ tialima mana’ta. Wala raad da lima qadait. Wala yanfa’u zal jaddi min kal jad
Ya Allah, nothing can stop You if You want to grant it, and nothing can grant us whenever You don’t allow it. Diligent still cannot give benefit to us as compared to the prosperity that only come from You….
