POSITION PAPER5
“Counselors are the key to the success of 1 Malaysia concept.”

Counsellor is someone that does the counselling work intended to guide the client to gain insight in their problems in life. It seems like counsellor is focusing on problematic student in school but unconsciously the actual role of counsellor is very wider than just a counsellor in school only. I do agree that counsellors are the key to the success of 1 Malaysia since the counsellor must be someone that has a big range responsibility toward the society in terms the development of each individual starting from the school level because counsellor has a countless knowledge of human development and counsellor has the authority which is the best approach in school to determine the best ways in building the towering personality headed for 1 Malaysia. In One Malaysia, what we need is a truly revolutionary process of transformation that will bring back the dignity of the poor and the dispossessed of all ethnic groups, punish the robber barons, bring back freedom of inquiry in all our educational and cultural institutions, create a God-fearing law enforcement system. Thus, it is the change not only specifically on the combination of ethnic but it is a huge change of the whole development.

Counsellor must be a knowledgeable person who knows every aspect of human’s life not only particular on counselling field. Every aspects of human development can be known by observation and added with their learning process in counselling specialization. In addition, if the counsellor can changes one’s views of life which is not by asking him or her to change but guiding him or her to change through counselling sessions. If the counsellor can change one individual, this means that the whole citizen can be changed by the counsellor as long as the counsellors are willing to do the job specification perfectly. As long as the intention of developing the human capital in all citizens had been set up, any approach can be used to make the change. However, it is not solely the counsellor role in emerging the changes but the whole society must contribute something such as an idea and be cooperated with the school to enhance the successful of attaining 1 Malaysia. 1 Malaysia is a step of educational and cultural institutions, so, the counsellor had been taught about cross culture whereby they had been trained to mix with other culture in order to know and learn other culture more deeply to make ease of them to understand their student and the multi-culture society as well. The counsellor may face a different problem in dealing with a unique culture in Malaysia and try to let them accept each other value. Being a counsellor is a noble profession whereby we can be close to anyone and accept them as it is since we are trained to become non judgmental, empathy, genuineness, and accept others with unconditional positive regards. All this sort of thing will brought a brief understanding of the values of the client as well as the society.

Counselor can choose the best approach in school to determine the best ways in building the towering personality headed for 1 Malaysia. The students start their interest and build it up into their ambition in school. Hence, if the counsellor pick up an appropriate ways in guiding the student it tends to convey the main purpose of educating them to become a first citizen meaning that to become a useful person that can contribute to the country development and be success in here after. In terms of achieving 1 Malaysia we must be cooperate and be together regardless of ethnic, race or religion in this country. Many programs can be implemented in order get them into one team work and accept each other values and differences in this multi races country.

In conclusion, counsellor is a liaison, consultant, advocate and the change agent in the school that will bring improvement in the school climate than automatically change the whole society in order to achieve the goals of One Malaysia.
