“Counselors are the key to the success of the 1 Malaysia concepts”.
First of all, let we see when the 1 Malaysia concepts is being introduced. This concept is being introduced as soon as Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak becomes our new Prime Minister on April 3rd 2009. The theme of this concept is “Rakyat didahulukan, Pencapaian diutamakan”. According to him, 1 Malaysia means Malaysian society stand, think and act as Malaysian by taking actions that is agree by all of the ethnic groups in this country. We should act different from what that have been done long time ago among the ethnics. Our Prime Minister have also visit three main ethnic area in Malaysia as to prove that he is really mean on what that have been said.
In school, counselors are the key success of the 1 Malaysia concept. As we can see, counselors play as a main role in the school towards their students. They are the one that will guide all of the students to understand about all of different ethnics in Malaysia. They also play a role as a person that will build a close relationship between different races within the school. As counselors, they can held a program that involves all the races in school such as Indian, China and also Malay. Create some groups with different races in each group and then make some activities that will make them to work as a team. This will help all of the students to know about other races more and reduce the negative perspectives that they thought about each races. With this program will also help them to become close between the races within and outside the school and will influence the society to have a positive perspectives about each races in Malaysia.
Counselors not only play their role within the school but they also play their role in the society. For example, sometimes there are some problems that involve the races in neighborhood. As counselors that know more about each races in Malaysia, they can handle that situations in a smooth and brilliant ways. Sometimes, there are some problems that difficult and take some times to be solved such as a quarrel that involves culture between two different races. As counselors, they are also facing with some problems within the society whereby the society think that they cannot trust the counselors and counselors are not able to solve their problems at all because they cannot solve the problems that happened in the school and how they are going to solve the problems that happened within the society. People do always have negative perspectives about others and it will never stops because it is a normal behavior within a human beings and we as counselors should accept the negative perspectives as positive critics to improve our career more towards a good counselors.
In my opinion, counselors are the key to the success of the 1 Malaysia concept because without counselors, who else is going to build a closer relationship within different races in school and understand each of the races more. Counselors play a big role in the school. They are the only one in the school that expert on solving any problems that involves the races. They are also the one that understand why such problems happened. They also have other jobs to be solve such as abortion among the girls in school, vandalism and less motivation among the students which it is not easy for the counselors to solve all the problems in one time but they have been trained on how to handle such cases in organize ways but sometimes they are also becomes weak.
In conclusion, counselors are the key to the success of the 1 Malaysia concept. We as Malaysian should give full support and help the counselors not by just assume them with negative thought. As Malaysian, we also should give full support to our Prime Minister with his 1 Malaysia concept.
